If you are not so into professional camcorders, Sony NEX-5 camera with video function might be in your consideration.
Just my two cents.

- posted on 06/04/2010

I hardly know anything about today's camcorders. HD video enabled SLR is a viable alternative, though I know people who switched from SLR to camcorders- the guy shoots BMX video. SLR can provide excellent video quality, but bear in mind HD video is a tag-on. Its controls for video is not as easy to use. For one thing, I find zooming with a zoom lens while viedo recording is awkward. The hand shake shows and is magnified in the final video. Mounting the SLR on a tripod helps to some extent, but hand zoom probably won't come off as smooth as the zoom switch on a camcorder. Auto focusing vs manual focusing is another topic to be discussed.
But whatever you choose, share some videos you shot and I'd be happy to share my comments and critiques.
