This little news piece on CNN led me to ebay. There I found the reported item ("Private Dinner for Five with Sarah Palin"), along with a related auction "Not Dinner with Sarah Palin, dinner with a real family" (see below). Isn't America great?!
As of now, there's no one bidding. But we'll find out how many true Palin fans are out there eager to dine with Ms. Palin, touted as "the chance of a lifetime." (Personally, I wouldn't do it for more than $250, out of concern that people might call me 250. :)

From CNN's Lauren Kornreich
If you've ever wanted to eat dinner with Sarah Palin, now's your chance.
(CNN) - If you've ever wanted to eat dinner with Sarah Palin, now's your chance.
With bids starting at $25,000, eBay is auctioning off a dinner for five with the former Alaska governor and her husband, Todd. The proceeds will go to "Ride 2 Recovery," a charity that provides wounded veterans with bicycles and organized rides to help in their mental and physical recovery.
"The Governor is excited to have been asked to honor our nation's veterans in this way," said Palin spokesman Meg Stapleton.
The auction opens on Tuesday and will last for ten days. Also up for grabs: Lunch with Karl Rove. Bidding on a meal with the former Bush presidential adviser starts at $7,500.

还 Free shipping 呢哈,好像应当说清楚ship什么,不要是把Palin一家ship给你,还得你给做饭 :) - posted on 09/09/2009
That would be nice for some, scary for the rest.
A quick update.
After 10 hours, 3 additional competing auctions appear. So far, the first contesting (also protesting) dinner invitation emerges as a clear winner with 18 bids. But this will go on for a total of 10 days. Will Palin ever get a bidder? Let's stay tuned.

Can I bid negatively? I'll dine with her if I get paid $2,500. And still I'll go feeling despondent, even with the $2,500. You're 250 already by bidding positively. ;)

Agreed. I already became one by even following the bidding in the first place. But here's another update. A bit more than 24 hours into the contest, Palin appears to be winning in terms of the total proceeds she'll rake in. But as far as the number of bids received is concerned, she is in the second place.
I don't know why in the world I care about this. But since I've already got this far, I might as well keep checking the website until the game is over.

Bidding Update
"Private Dinner for Five with Sarah Palin": 19 bids from 4 bidders, now at $38,666.60
"Not Dinner with Sarah Palin, dinner with a real family": 29 bids from 16 bidders, now at $152.50
Cannot believe there are only 4 Pallin fans in the world, whereas the single mother with 3 kids now have 16 bidders (potentially suitors too).

I quess the 4 hours will be pretty intensive. What and how many jobs are going to be involved? ;) - posted on 09/11/2009
According to the terms and conditions, that will be "in the sole discretion of Sarah Palin."
She also "reserves the right to refuse...if, in her sole discretion, [the one night-stander she first chose] is not...suitable...based on her subjective standards." Of course, "in the event [that person] is r ejected...[he] will be refunded, if paid."
