wow!

You can find SNL's sexual innuendo distasteful, or Farley's "living in a van down the bridge by the river" motivational speaker skit uninspiring in your kids' educational kit. (Although it's the first time SNL was held as a standard to instill value in our malleable youngsters.) But that's not what 赏石 was talking about. You don't make fun of other's plight: the disabled can't grow a limb on the flight; the poor can't become enlightened overnight for lack of better education. It is incredibly arrogant to laugh at those less fortunate in a society full of injustice.
You mentioned SNL's skits satirizing the presidents. That's precisely the difference in the taste of humor: in this country we make fun of the powerful and put them in their proper place; in China they make fun of the powerless to put them in their proper place.

I can name many SNL skits that made fun of other's plight, remember recent skit that made fun of the blind NY major (or governor?). Don't tell me that big official is different, that's not a valid excuse. ... not that I agree with such practice :)

This is your logic, that if you are not somebody else, you would not be capable of understanding what he is talking about? Already I can see where your non sequitur answers originated. A bit of an advice if you want to engage others in a debate: try to make an effort to understand what other people are talking about before you jump in, reasonable?
Back to what we were discussing, just because none of the actors are handicapped themselves that somehow in your mind excuses the clear intention of mocking the crippled people in his skit? Given the fact that his body of work clearly shows a tendency to make the peasants bumbling village idiots, some people just find it homorless and tasteless, and that somehow offends your sensibility?
As a fan you have every right to defend his antics. But don't use a show like SNL for comparison because you haven't a slightest idea what it is about. They didn't make a single reference to governor Patterson's blindness in that sketch you were talking about. And because he is a powerful person vs Benshan's taking potshots at the refuse of society makes all the difference.
Look, comedy is subjective. If making fun of the powerless peasants makes you feel big and satisfied, all the power to Benshan. I have a feeling though SNL will only make you cringe, why bother?

2. 你说, “They (SNL) didn't make a single reference to governor Patterson's blindness in that sketch”, 那为何”The National Federation of the Blind is calling it an attack on all blind Americans?”
Morality.
4. 再见!

My language getting offensive? Now that's sensitive times 100, might we call it linguistic allergy? ;-) Can you point a single word in my posts that is not fit to print, by any contemporary standard, or otherwise?
Have you read the statement from "The National Federation of the Blind"? Did it say anything about SNL actually making fun of their disability? When there is a character that happens to be blind, and if he is made fun of but not for that fact, then if you whine about it it's called hyper-sensitive and political correctness. No matter who else you want to bring here to boost your argument, even if you can cite Stevie Wonder's objection it still doesn't change that fact.
At the risk of repeating myself hoarse, I don't give a damn about Benshan's shticks, whether it's offensive or not. I don't find it funny, and if you are his fan, good for you. I am just simply telling you no need to be sensitive when your idol is not a universal hero that you think he is. People have different taste, and your comparison with SNL is way off the mark. You might think you are a connoisseur of that show, dropping the names and all (although I don't think Rob Schneider or Adam Sandler ever licked a plate in a restaurant sketch, might it be Chris Kattan's monkey boy you are confused with?), you are way too sensitive to actually enjoy the humor.
Oh one more thing, no need to disclaim your unwillingness to respond again and again. If you don't want to respond, just keep quiet. But I for one, do hope you can defend your position when you engage people in a debate. And never confuse serious discourse with offensive language.

;-) - posted on 01/29/2009

;-) - posted on 01/29/2009

Oh one more thing, no need to disclaim your unwillingness to respond again and again. If you don't want to respond, just keep quiet. But I for one, do hope you can defend your position when you engage people in a debate. And never confuse serious discourse with offensive language.
