I am listening to Adagio and Fugue in C Minor for Strings (K.546). Very dark.

you know, the first time I listened to Piano Concerto No.20, I was a littled troubled by the opening, but now I like this one a lot.

Nicely said. Mozart may always appear resplendent and gay to his contemporaries, but he never produced cheap candy work.
BTW, I listened to his clarinet concerto again, it does sound melancholic if you pay closer attention.

Here are some noteworthy comments from Saul Bellow on Mozart -
Within Mozart's cheerful daylight secularity there is always otherworldly darkness. And the freedom he expresses is never without sadness, a deep submission to melancholy. We are endowed with comprehension but what we are required to comprehend is too much for us.
BTW, I have seen major operas of Mozart's - Idomeneo, Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, and Cosi fan Tutte. Loved all! - Re: The other side of Mozartposted on 07/13/2004
